Late entry in the Italian cannibal genre. First time watch for me.

Review by Slig001 ★★★
This is often considered a late entry in the Italian cannibal subgenre, but it's actually more of a jungle exploitation courtroom drama. Unsurprisingly, this wasn't the genesis of a whole new subgenre. The film begins with a voiceover which actually gives a good indication as to what the rest of the film will be like - it's very talky. The plot basically follows a family that head off into the jungle, only to be killed save for the titular heroine, who is instead inducted into a primitive tribe. The bulk of the film is quite sombre with the odd spattering of gore here and there. The film seems to have an affinity for showing severed heads, but in fact most…

This is a new one! A cannibal film mixed with a TV movie of the week true story... except it's not really a true story (to my embarrassment I had to check after) although to be fair some of it seemed plausible and it does ram its true story origins down your throat with its documentary styled opening a la Cannibal Holocaust.
Played like The Woman From Deep River but relayed as testimony as Elvire Audray stands trial for a double murder, vacantly recounting the horrors the befell her as she's taken into slavery by a tribe of "savages", the leader of which, Umukai played by Will Gonzales (who must've graduated with honours from the Mark Gregory school of acting)… -

Much more of a slower cannibal love story. There's a bit of gore and the animal cruelty that's there is more of the nature vs nature instead of "hey, there's an animal, let's slaughter it for shock value!". Not a bad way to end the Italian cannibal cycle.

Day 25 of leaping over a winter trashfire challenge
Watch a movie from 1985This was a ok movie, it could have been better but the pacing was slow and it dragged at the middle of the movie. The kills were done well at least, and the story was interesting i will be honest but it could have been paced better. The filming location was pretty and it was well filmed.
Overall if you are a fan of cannibal type movies i would suggest it to you, but if you aren't the biggest fan of those types of movies then i wouldn't suggest it to you.

This is one of my personal favourite cannibal films, cause it's not only about the gore, animal snuff scenes, which I totally hate. It's a pretty unusally told story for this kind of genre. Amazonia tells a true.story about suffering, revenge and most important a story about true love and sadness at the end.

Amazonia is a curious movie.
I liked it so far, I knew what to expect.
A little trashy and slow, it has some good practical effects, they even take the time to show the mutilations, and chopped heads, and I found it kinda cool. The story is not the best, just slow, and at the end the cannibals were not as bad as you think and Catherine falls in love with one of them, I didn't expect that.
This soundtrack has some similitaries with the original Cannibal Holocaust. 😁

Much like with Jesus', the resurrection of the Italian Cannibal cycle wasn't as prolific and didn't get as much achieved as in the heyday, but it was still more than tolerable.
In fact I suppose this isn't really a cannibal film at all, except in content, setting and basic premise, so I'm counting it as one anyway.
Again, much like the resurrection of Jesus, White Slave or Amazonia: The Catherine Miles Story, is set apart by being framed as a courtroom retelling of the events leading up to the murder of two of Catherine's family members. Catherine tells the story of her abduction and the murder of her family into a savage tribe, who introduce themselves with a beheading. She…

“Then it seems that your relations with this savage who decapitated your parents turned into a love idol.”
Mario Gariazzo directs a script by Franco Prosperi in a movie that feels oftentimes more Prosperi than Prosperi. Sorry Gariazzo.
Sex and violence.
I have fond memories of renting this, thinking, this good looking oversized VHS box is wasted on these plebes. No one will rent this. But I will. I will and I will enjoy it.
And speaking of VHS, this typical Full Moon DVD is a straight VHS rip. -

🎉🎉HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYBODY!! 🎉🎉
I wish I could have a more relevant, or planned feature for my first review of 2023, but this one was pre-written in sorts so I might as well post it for the new year. And here’s to another year of movie watching as always!!! 😊
This one’s more of an adventure-survival flick with a romance storyline interweaved, than a straight-up exploitation horror, despite it having clearly taken notes from the string of cannibal movies that preceded it; it even has a suspiciously similar score to that of Riz Ortolani’s work on Cannibal Holocaust.
It stands out from many of the others though, and Elvire Audray is a genuine lead. It plays out as a…

After witnessing the brutal murder of her plantation-owning parents, pretty Catherine is abducted and taken miles into the Amazon to live among a native tribe. This picturesque jungle adventure is usually held up as being one of the final entries..along with 'Cut and Run' and 'Massacre in Dinosaur Valley..in the Italian cannibal genre! If so,its definitely a kinder, gentler entry in the cycle, focusing more on lush scenery and the even lusher body of star Elvire Audray, than the sadism and animal deaths synonymous with the more infamous cannibal films. There's still a few gory moments, notably the deaths of Catherine's parents, but most of the runtime consists of Catherine learning the ways of the tribe, and fending off the advances of the muscular…

Not my cuppa tea! Amazonia The Catherine Miles Story also known as White Slave I believe is nasty and gross but nothing too horrendously shocking but it is at times mind numbingly boring a very hard watch and a long hour and a half.
Odd if you take out the deaths, some brutality, nudity and so forth it could be a pleasant story of a nice white women lost in the Amazon and being taken in by a tribe a little strange.
The film doesn't even start of that bad and there are some nice shots of scenery and wildlife but ultimately Amazonia is not one for me but I could see some people maybe getting a little out of this.
