Why Do We Celebrate Ganesh Utsav For 10 Days?
According to ancient scriptures, Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birth anniversary of Ganapati, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The Ganesh Festival involves 10 days of meticulous worship of Ganpati, during which all tasks of the devotee are believed to be accomplished successfully.
A mythological story recounts that Sage Vedavyasa called upon Ganesh Ji to transcribe the Mahabharata. As Vyasa recited verses, Ganapati wrote them down without interruption for 10 days, accumulating a layer of dust. On the tenth day, known as Anant Chaturdashi, Ganesh Ji bathed in the Saraswati River, cleansing himself, and this practice became the tradition of celebrating Ganesh Utsav for 10 days.
